The 1865 diary of Lawrence, Kansas resident William H. H. Whitney, a twenty-five year old Civil War veteran of Vermont's 13th Infantry Regiment, chronicles his activities as a recent emigrant to Lawrence with his wife and young son. Whitney's many entries describe the weather, his work and social activities, the birth of his second son, and local events.
